Need of Gadget for education (India focused)

We all love gadget. We can't imagine a life without them, it become part of our everyday life. We have gadget for everything; for listening music, playing games, locating position etc. But "Is there anything available for study?". kindle, Nook, iPad, Andriod tablets are all having the features of reading eBooks. But reading the book in a digital device is what the technology offer for us?. Obviously not, we can do much more then that. A fully dedicated education gadget is very much essential and important too.

Kid's love gadget:

Few weeks ago, my dad gave his mobile to me and asked "why the caller history is not working in his mobile?". I checked through the options, but not able to find. My neighbor kid (5 year old) asked me to check the memory status. I checked it, it was full. He told me to deleted some unnecessary files, the mobile started working fine after I delete. This type of incidents are quite common now a days. Kids learning the technology much faster then us. They are very much interested to work on it. If gadgets are used as a learning device, a big difference can be made in education.

Current available device:

There are few projects already initiated based on this thoughts. But nothing had reached the market successfully. An year back ago, our government started a project called AKASH, which is to develop a cheap tablet device for students. They had a plan of sell the device for concession price to students. But it was not successful. At final stage it was dropped due to poor performance. Though its a good initiative, it has failed due to improper planning.

With the current available technology, its possible to create a education gadget for much cheaper price. With proper planning and constant development, it can be achieved. Android is a biggest hope for this device. Because its free, open-source, easy to code etc etc. China had made a android tablet for 3,500 Rs. The price can further go down, if manufactured in larger quantity.

Class-pad: A product of Indian company

A mumbai based company classteacher is also working on the similar kind of project. Their gadget name is Classpad, build on android 4. It's a seven inch wide screen gadget with wi-fi, Camera, GPS etc. The market price of this gadget is 10,000Rs. Compare to Akash, Classpad is far better, but the scope of classpad is not just a study device, it even more. you can take notes with it, sharing it with your friends, taking class exam's etc etc. The biggest concern about this gadget is, its not a custom designed education device. It look like any other android tablet, with default android application. we can also install any android application in it.

Though the IT market is working vigorously, this idea is still open. There is lot of scope available in this market. And more over the social impact of this product is much much higher. I'm planning to do few more post extending the same topic. Hope for the positive future.
